Howie Wolke is a longtime wilderness advocate, author of two books, columnist, public speaker, university instructor, and professional wilderness guide. Howie is well known in the conservation movement for his expertise on public lands and wilderness, and national forest issues in particular. After working as the Wyoming Representative for Friends of the Earth in the mid 1970's, he co-founded Earth First! in 1980 and left that group in 1990, after it lost its focus on wilderness. Today he is an advisor or board member for a variety of regional and national groups. He is a past president of the national conservation group Wilderness Watch. Howie has a BS in Environmental Conservation with a minor in Wildlife Ecology.
Marilyn Olsen co-founded Big Wild Advocates with Howie Wolke and is a longtime wilderness/wildlife activist as well as a registered nurse. Marilyn is a tireless advocate for native species, and also works closely with various regional organizations. Marilyn specializes in conservation education for young people and her programs for school children are unique and innovative. She believes that outreach to the young is essential, in order to bolster their instrinsic biophillia before these kids are indoctrinated into the dominant paradigm of production, destruction, consumption, and waste.
